About On the Record for Children

On the Record for Children is the newsletter of the NGO Committee on UNICEF and covered the run-up to the Special Session of the UN General Assembly on Children beginning January 2001. (Back issues can be found on the website of the NGO Committee, see below). It was produced in email form until the Special Session, and was then covered daily in e-mail and hard copy versions. One issue was produced by young journalists for the Children’s Forum.

Anaga Dalal was the principal writer and Colleen Malone served as copy editor and the OTR manager. AP also worked with Young People’s Press (http://www.ypp.net), a Toronto-based organization that trains and works with young journalists. Naomi Lightman, who was 16 at the time, from YPP, served as youth editor for On the Record for Children.

All material in On the Record for Children was reviewed by an editorial group of the NGO Committee prior to publication. The editors welcomed ideas for articles, letters, and opinion pieces, and edited some articles for length.
